The Youth Goat Show will be held on Sunday, August 29th at 10:00 AM. Animals must be in place at the Fairgrounds by 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 28th and are required to remain until Sunday, August 29th at 3:00 PM. Entries will be checked on Saturday. Animals may arrive earlier than the 28th, but the owner/breeder must be present to care for them.

The Youth Show is open to all persons ages 5 to 19. Goats do not have to be registered. However, Animals will be checked by the Show Chairperson before being unloaded at the Fairgrounds. Animals must be in good health and free from disease and sores.

Entries should be sent to: Salley Peniuk, 464 Starks Rd., New Sharon, ME 04955 and must be received by no later than August 10th.

All exhibitors are required to participate in the showing & fitting classes. Entries should include: name & address of breeder; phone # and/or email address; animal's name, class number, animal's age, animal's breed. Animals DO NOT have to be registered to be eligible for the Youth Show. Breeds to be shown are: Alpine, Boer, LaMancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Pygmy, Oberhasil, Saaners/Sable, Toggenburg and Recorded Grade. NO bucks. Junior Does, Senior Does and Wethers are eligible.

Base date for age computation is August 29th, 2009. There are no entry fees required for the Youth Goat Show. The Youth Goat Show is sponsored by Piscataquis Valley Fair.

Exhibitors must provide their own grain & hay for feed. Hay racks, feed dishes and water buckets must also be provided by the exhibitor.

A herdsman award will be given to the exhibitor demonstrating: cleanliness of pen area, co-operation with show personnel, fair officials and other exhibitors, participation, General attitude. Exhibitors are required to wear white in the show ring.

• Senior: Ages 15, 16, 17
• Intermediate: Ages 11, 12, 13, 14
• Junior: Ages 7, 8, 9, 10
• Pee Wee Ages 5 & 6 (Must have assistant in ring when showing)
• Novice: First time showing (any age)

WETHERS: Breeds of Wethers will be shown at the same time according to age of goat.

SPECIALTY CLASSES: Specialty classes will encompass all breeds as once in each class. The Herd may consist of all breeds owned by the exhibitor. Entries limited to ONE ENTRY per class. Adults may help if neccessary.

Saturday Special Events:

• Showing workshop: Showing your goat correctly (sat. 11:30 AM – Goat barn)
• Costume Parade: Dress up your critter (& yourself) 2:00 PM show ring. Open to ALL livestock breeders.
• Livestock Obstacle Course: Open to ALL livestock & their owners. 4:30 PM – Show ring.
• EXTRA EVENT – Goat Breeders!!
• Poster Contest: Create a poster/display that shows some aspect of life with goats. Poster/display will be on display and will be judged. Ribbons & trophies to be awarded according to age.
