Outstanding Agricultural Family for 2006
The Nuite Family of Cal-Rae Farms in Atkinson

Nuite Family The family of Cal-Rae Farms in Atkinson has been named Outstanding Agricultural Family for 2006. Established by Lewis and Loretta Nuite in 1987, the Nuite family takes pride in their agricultural heritage. Lewis and Loretta both come from generations of farm families, with Lewis raised on Gilrock Farms in Sangerville and Loretta raised on Kathretta Farms in Atkinson.

Their children, Larae and Caleb, were actively responsible for the growth of the farm in the past and now Larae in employed for Gilrock Farms and Caleb is involved with crop work for his father in addition to his truck driving job. Cal-Rae Farms was the first farm in Piscataquis county that converted to Organic dairy farming in 1997. They currently milk 85 cows, Brown Swiss and Holsteins, and work 500 plus acres of land.

The Nuite family would especially like to give their thanks and appreciation to Luke Mahar and Spencer LaGoy, and their families, for sacrificing what all farm families endure to help Cal-Rae Farms succeed. Lewis would also like to recognize all the neighbors, friends and family who helped in the establishment of the farm.

We congratulate the Nuite family for their years of dedication to the agricultural industry.
